Gone Fishing!Instead of just a wishing!

For anyone who does not know what this is,it is a Cod.
During Autumn,North Sea Cod slowly migrate south in preparation for spawning in Spring.During this migration they change their diet from fish, to worms and crustaceans(Crabs). They work their way down the coast of Scotland and England. They eventually enter The English Channel before disappearing.
It is during the period that Cod eat worms that they can be caught from the beach. While scavenging for worms, they will often travel many miles into estuaries and be within casting range of fishermen fishing from beaches and piers.
Their is also a "Cod Run" in spring, which only lasts about week, of Cod returning to The North Sea.
The Cod in the photograph was caught at Gillingham Pier,Gillingham,Kent. It is at least 10 miles from the mouth of the River Medway.

Pulau Betong fishing pier

Pulau Betong is located at the south western tip of Penang island. In this case, we are talking about the fishing village located on the Penang island. It is named after an island located just under 1 km away off the main land.
This place was hit by Tsunami back in 2004. Some lost their lives.
Anyway, as you can see, the main economy generation of this village is through fishing. There are some fishmonger stalls located just beside the pier. Locals often come here to hunt for cheap and fresh seafood.

Dehydrated Fish Maw SGD20 per 100g

Such a tedious process to cook this stuff!
This fish maw was quite thick, about 7mm when dehydrated.
1. Soak overnight to rehydrate. The texture at this stage is rubbery, but not sticky.
2. 出水 Blanch in boiling water with slices of ginger. I didn’t have ginger, so I substituted orange peel and spring onion, both of which are commonly used in Chinese cooking to get rid of fishy smells. After blanching, the collagen is starting to be release, with the fish maw slightly sticky to the touch.
3. Boil in chicken or pork soup until tender. In this case, 2 hours in a vacuum pot wasn’t enough, so I simmered it for another hour and a half.
Apart from boiling chicken in the soup, I also added ginger, and 红枣 Chinese red dates. After 2 hours in the vacuum pot, the soup had been tainted with a slight fishiness and a musty gamey flavour. To counter this, I used a tablespoon of white peppercorns, cracked, and some 陈皮 dried mandarin peel, all in a muslin bag, and added it to the soup for the final hour and a half. The resulting soup was nice and peppery, a typical style of soup used to cook pig stomach.
The final texture of the fish maw was softer than marshmallow, barely keeping it’s form. It shouldn’t be chewy with the bite of soft pasta.

Tropical Fish Frame

One-of-a-kind photo frame created with hand-mixed, bright polymer clay colors. The fish and seaweed are built with layers of polymer clay cane work in spirals and other detailed patterns. The background was made by painstakingly laying down clay stripes, spirals and dots one at a time to make a wavy, flowing "ocean."
This piece was created for the Polymer Clay Artists Guild of Etsy March Challenge. Vote for your favorite from noon on March 1 to midnight on March 3 at pcagoe.com.

NEW FISH!!! #2

Introducing Flippy the Red Oranda, he likes to flip around a lot while swimming hence the name. (thanks to Kayvee for the name suggestion of Flipper and Sammy… I just combined those two to get Flippy haha)
I actually got Flippy about 2 days ago and he wasn’t part of the original 3 that I had bought, now I have 5 fish in my tank. I have yet to get pictures of the other 3 fish…. they don’t seem too amused with the flash… but they’ll get used to it…. lol
I really need to remember to clean those water spots before I take fish pictures!! :S
